It's that time of year again... (30 day photo challenge)

Yes, the time of year where I make my Year 9 Photography classes do the 30 Day Photo Challenge. And, in a bid to be a good teacher, show them examples and better my own practice, I am doing it too. No iphone so only pure, honest, unedited, filter free photography. Here I go...

Holy F*ck! You're HOW old Miss?

I am turning 30 in a couple of months.  I am throwing a party to celebrate.  Being the good art teacher I am, I have set my guests a homework task in selecting their costume.  The theme is "Famous Artists, Artworks and Art Movements."

So far I have people coming as....

 Magritte's "The Son of Man"...

 Toulouse Lautrec Can-Can dancers...

 A Monet lilypad....

 and Ingres's "The Odalisque".

While I will be dressed up as a multi coloured, screen printed, pop art Marilyn Monroe.

Inanimate objects which look like faces.

A mini tape on my desk at work.

Scratched out shapes on a wall in Annandale. Add your own expressions.
(I think the bottom right one looks like Tintin)

CARNIVAL

I went to a "carnival" themed party on the weekend.  I dressed up as a dancing monkey.  Other people were carnies, a fortune teller, ring masters, balloon man, bearded lady, clown, etc etc. It got pretty crazy.

Someone brought gaucho marx glasses so I decided to take photos of everyone wearing them.  Here are a few of them.

Today I saw....

Today I was cutting my way through the back streets of chippendale to Sydney Uni when the silence of the afternoon was broken by a distant 80's pop track; the kind they use in Farrah Fawcett exercise videos.  As there was nothing but worn down old industrial buildings around me I couldn't work out where this cacophony of high energy bubble gum music was coming from and for what purpose.  I followed its trace, getting louder and louder, finally looking up to a window of a very tall warehouse expecting to see either some confused installation artist or a group of bouncing gym junkies.  Instead I was pleasantly confronted with a crowd of painted faces, red noses and pom-pom-ed outfits, giggly hysterically.  It was a clowning school, and in amongst the grey landscape, nothing could have lifted my spirits more at that moment.

On the bus back from Canberra.... it was a bit bumpy.... excuse the incredibly crude hand...

Playground Weekender Art

I spent the weekend in Del Rio (just north of Sydney) at Playground Weekender painting, gluing, drawing, spraying and inking to raise money for charity and score myself a free ticket. Was awesome fun.

Here is the final product.

And me looking exhausted and sweaty
after working solidly on it for more
than two days.

Some close ups.
